DESCRIPTION OF COMPANY

The Hogrefe & Huber Group is an independent organization of companies led by psychologists, and includes within its operations a number of important publishing houses in psychology and medicine.

The Hogrefe Verlag für Psychologie was founded in 1949 as a specialist psychology publisher for books and journals. The first tests were published in 1953, and since then the test program has expanded to cover all areas of psychological assessment.

Verlag Hans Huber (founded in 1927) is the leading Swiss medical publisher, and also has a long tradition in psychiatry and psychology. The company's extensive list of psychodiagnostic instruments originally started in the 1920's with a publication by a then unknown young man with the name of Hermann Rorschach.

Westermann Tests, specializing in developmental and educational instruments, was taken over in 1983. The Group's comprehensive test program was rounded off by the recent acquisition of Beltz Test, with its specialization in clinical assessment instruments.

Hogrefe & Huber Publishers, with offices in the USA, Canada, and Germany, produces the Group's English-language publications for an international market, and has recently also started a test program.

The Testzentrale (founded 1955), which is run in collaboration with the German Professional Psychologists Association, is the main test distribution center for the German-speaking countries. It not only distributes all of the tests produced by the companies in the Group (with a market share of about 90%), but also hundreds of other test programs, including foreign-language ones.

MAIN AREAS OF BUSINESS

The Hogrefe & Huber Group's wide range of publications includes more than 35 periodicals, in both German and English, such as Psychologische Rundschau, Schweizerische Arztezeitung, Zeitschrift für klinische Psychologie, Diagnostica, European Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, and the European Journal of Psychological Assessment. Our nearly 2,000 books in print include an 88-volume encyclopedia of psychology, a wide range of German and English textbooks, monographs, and handbooks in psychology and medicine for scientists and clinicians, as well as titles for a broader audience.

The Hogrefe & Huber Group is also the leading specialist producer and distributor of psychological tests and assessment instruments in the German-speaking areas. Indeed, a recent survey showed that the 20 most frequently used tests in Germany were all published by our companies.

The tests we publish number more than 400, and cover all areas of psychological assessment: development, school, and intelligence tests; performance and personality tests; clinical and diagnostic tests; and occupational tests. Examples include the Freiburg Personality Inventory (FPI), the d2 Test of Attentiveness Under Pressure, the Gerontological Concentration Test (AKT), the Aachen Test of Aphasia (AAT), the Berlin Amnesia Test (BAT), the Giessen Complaint Inventory for Children and Adolescents (GBB-KJ), and the General Office Work Test (ABAT). The Group has continued to develop and refine the well-known series of Westermann Tests, and for over 60 years has been the exclusive publisher of the Rorschach Plates. English-language instruments include the Sceno Test and the Cognitive Development Program for Children.

In addition to conventional tests, the Group also produces numerous computerized instruments, including the Hogrefe Test System.
